Rayne's World: Level 1 Rayne's World: Level 1

Rated 1 / 5 stars August 6, 2008

Very Poor for a professional studio

If anyone else had created this game, I would have no problem with it. It's very very mediocre. It's the kind of thing I would play for about ten minutes and then put down. Lets face it, we've all played super mario knockoffs dozens of times. I really can't see someone excited to get to the next level, when we all know what's going to be there. Furthermore, I know it's still a very rough draft, but it was glitchy and hard to carefully control rayne.

Another reviewer said:
"But with all these very positive reviews, that don't seem to mind that you've just made Mario again, I'd like to recommend that you don't stick your feet up. In terms of concept development and innovation, this is sorely lacking."

I would somewhat agree with that, but would like to add a word of caution. A vast majority of those testing this game (and reviewing it) are huge fans of the LICD comic. Obviously they are going to be prone to say "OMG RAYNE, OMG SOHMER", with little thought put in. Make them pay to play, however, and I don't think they would be in such a rush to shell out. All in all I think you guys could do better.

(also the lipstick powerup acts as the star from supermario for those curious)

Bleh

As far as these strange (and in my opinion, pointless) menus with multiple tiny clips scync'd to music, this one isnt that bad, at least in a relative sense. One point I would like to make is that there really is enough of these "shape in the middle of random and objects/fruits gangs." If your group designations are that un-original the expectations for your flashes are already in the blam level.

I found your response to the last viewer abusive, and although I do hate people who talk in all caps as much as the next guy, insulting "Ultimate Destiny" is out of line. Although music videos may not require as much creative thought as say, a more artistically or comedically designed video, UD is well animated and the effort is obvious. I cannot say as much for this flash.

To summize my points: Clock/W.E ripoffs, auto blam...
3 seconds poorly animated movies within a movie, auto blam
Just some food for thought.... Best wishes to ye, hope to see some more flashes down the line.

Hey guess what, >:U

Somebody has to show those guys they can't leave abusive reviews. Also, nobody cares about your views on -ock groups. Atleast you weren't "LOLOMG WTF J00 CLAWKS R LIEK TEH GHEY" so I thank you for that.

ehh?

It was nice and all the music definatly gave a dramatic feeling, but WTF was the point??? A little history lesson? A patrotic pat on the back? Red neck warmongering? Are you saying its good the the giant is awaked? Or bad and we should watch are backs? Overall it was pretty pointless and in my opinion uses "big issues" to get a flash into the portal with minimal flash skills.

Ehhhh

You really gotta fix the sound... the "fail safe" is a pain to use and had me wondering if it was synched the entire time. It started off funny but in the middle it gave me a fuggin headache. Art wasnt bad though...

Not bad

Good job for a first flash the animating and sound were solid. The art could definatly use some touching up... and I use the term art loosly. Don't be discoraged if this gets blammed sticks are blam'd just on principle.

Blehh

Very nice animation, style, and audio although sometimes the faces didnt match up to the tone of the voices... I've got to say thats the cornyest and least funny POS I've seen with that level of art.

Ehhh

Well it was ok nothing new nothing special. I don't think the cars coming at you scale with the amount of time you play I got to 5k easily and quit. Very repetitive after awile and it gets boring but work on it and you would have a pretty damn good game!

Not bad

Not bad as a start could really use some touching up though. Some backstory/plot would be nice. Also I sometimes would be up to my waist in a pillar if I hit it from the side instead of directly on top. Falling into a pit should take away life not end the game. Continues would also be nice... Overal great job!

CrippledPig responds:

Yeah, that is actually a "huge" problem I was trying to fix from day one, and I'm only still learning actionscript, so it's quite hard to make things stop dead on hittests. And hopefuly I will scrape that soon.

Amazing!

Great art, sound, and animation style! I love it!!! I know why you didn't win though the email service was an eliment of the flash not a major part which is a shame; with art like that you were a shoe in!
